Saudi Arabia’s NWC initiates tender for sewage pipeline network

Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company (NWC) has initiated the tender process for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract concerning a Sewage Pipeline Network within the Al-Madaen scheme situated in Hail, reports Zawya.
The venture encompasses the establishment of sewage networks spanning diameters ranging from 200mm to 600mm, collectively spanning 63km.

VA TECH WABAG and Metito awarded Southeast Asia’s largest desalination plant project

The consortium of VA TECH WABAG (WABAG) and Metito signed the contract to develop a 400,000m³/day Perur Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB). The project aims to enhance water security and ensure a steadfast supply of clean potable water to over 2.7 million people residing in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu’s South Chennai area.
The desalination process includes Lamella Clarifiers, Dissolved Air Flotation System, Gravity Dual Media Filters, Reverse Osmosis, and Re-mineralization. The joint venture will be led by WABAG, headquartered in India.

Aquaporin and Singapore’s PUB work on biomimetic low-energy RO membrane demonstration

 

Aquaporin and PUB announced that Singapore’s National Water Agency, are partnering to develop the world’s first biomimetic low-energy Aquaporin Inside® membrane demonstration for NEWater.
A total of 504 CLEAR Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) modules from Aquaporin will be implemented at one of PUB’s NEWater production facilities, with a capacity of 1.7 million imperial gallons per day. This will demonstrate the Aquaporin Inside® technology’s ability to save energy and validate the technology for implementation in PUB’s future membrane replacement projects.

Dubai aims for 100% recycled water use by 2030

An ambitious water reclamation programme, spearheaded by Dubai Municipality for over five decades, has been a crucial component of the city’s efforts to prudently manage its ecological assets. The programme has seen Dubai achieving an impressive water reuse rate of 90% and significantly curbing its reliance on desalinated water and groundwater. By 2030, Dubai aims to increase recycled water utilisation to 100%.

EPA finds 26 million people in US have toxic ‘forever chemicals’ in their drinking water

The Environmental Protection Agency revealed that 26 million people in hundreds of communities have the toxic “forever chemicals” known as PFAS in their drinking water
Water utility data submitted to the agency shows hundreds of new detections of “forever chemicals” in water.
The Biden administration must this year urgently finalize its national drinking water standards for tackling PFAS.
The initial round of data that the agency released confirms the presence of PFAS at 431 water systems at levels above minimum reporting limits.

DEWA selects ACWA Power as Preferred Bidder for Phase 1 of Hassyan IWP project

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), announced that Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power is the ‘Preferred Bidder’ for the construction and operation of the 180 Million Imperial Gallon per Day (MIGD) Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Hassyan Phase 1 Independent Water Producer (IWP) project, with an investment of AED 3.357 billion (USD 914 million). DEWA has achieved a world record by receiving the lowest bid of 0.36536 USD/m³ of desalinated water.
It is DEWA’s first Independent Water Producer (IWP) model project.
By 2030, DEWA aims to produce 100% of desalinated water by a mix of clean energy and waste heat,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

Waste water treatment accounts for most of Scottish Water’s emissions.
The use of Grandperspective’s scanfeld® technology is a sector-first in the UK and will revolutionise understanding of gas emissions and transform treatment processes so they become environmentally sustainable.

Scottish Water operates more than 1800 wastewater treatment works in cities, towns and rural communities.
