Iberdrola Italia inaugurates a new photovoltaic plant

Iberdrola, a global leader in renewable energy, has launched its third solar power plant in Italy, further demonstrating its commitment to expanding clean energy generation and aiding the country’s journey toward industrial decarbonization.

Situated in the municipality of Tarquinia, the new plant has a capacity of 33 megawatts (MW) and is anticipated to generate about 50 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity each year. With 50,000 photovoltaic panels installed, the facility will produce enough clean energy to power approximately 18,000 households, while preventing the emission of over 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

The Tarquinia plant also embodies Iberdrola’s dedication to sustainable development and community engagement. Designed to provide green energy to Italian industries, the project includes the planting of an olive grove with 1,350 trees already in place, creating an additional source of value and opportunity for the local community.

To commemorate the inauguration, local primary school students and teachers from Tarquinia planted the final 20 olive trees. This activity is part of “Pianeta Iberdrola,” an educational initiative aimed at promoting the integration of clean energy production, biodiversity conservation, and local development.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local officials, including Tarquinia Deputy Mayor Enrico Leoni, as well as the Spanish Ambassador to Italy, Miguel Fernández-Palacios, highlighting the project’s importance at both regional and international levels.

“The energy of our plants is intended to support the competitiveness of our industrial customers, accompanying them in their decarbonisation path, and creates value not only from an environmental point of view by contributing to the fight against climate change, but also social and economic in the territory that hosts us. In fact, at Iberdrola, we believe that the development of renewable energies must go hand in hand with the protection of the environment and the improvement of the quality of life of local communities,” stated Valerio Faccenda, Country Manager of Iberdrola Italia.
