Grundfos’s net-zero targets approved by Science-Based Targets initiative

The Research-Based Objectives initiative (SBTi), a climate action organization that enables businesses to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets based on science, has given Grundfos complete validation of its 2050 net-zero aim.

In addition, SBTi approved Grundfos’s short-term 2030 emission reduction goals.

By 2030, compared to the baseline year of 2020, Grundfos pledges to cut its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 50% and its absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 25%.

According to Poul Due Jensen, group president and CEO of Grundfos, “At Grundfos, our services and solutions go beyond water, as do our sustainability ambitions: conserving energy, saving water, circular business and water access.

” We accept responsibility for the carbon that is released not only during the production of our goods but also for the energy used when they are in use as a top manufacturer of pumps and a provider of water solutions.

Many organizations lack this degree of complexity when measuring emission reduction, therefore it makes me incredibly proud to see Grundfos lead the industry in its valiant quest for a better world for people, corporations and the environment.

According to Grundfos, the company’s operations and value chain will need to undergo considerable innovation efforts and comprehensive, coordinated decarbonization.

The company identified the use of Grundfos products by end customers as its main source of GHG emissions after consulting with industry experts.

The company’s overall GHG emissions are made up of 99% of these emissions, which Grundfos is indirectly accountable for along its value chain.

Grundfos believes that by committing to reduce Scope 3 emissions and delivering the most energy-efficient and digitally enabled product portfolio available, it can have the greatest impact in addressing the escalating climate challenges.

The scientific goals and baseline for Grundfos’ carbon footprint were developed in collaboration with the Carbon Trust, a leading worldwide climate consultancy.

“We are happy to have supported Grundfos in setting its research-based targets, which are connected to both global net zero ambitions and climate science,” said Hugh Jones, managing director, of advisory at the Carbon Trust.

This is a crucial turning point for the company’s sustainability path and helps the water sector as a whole progress toward a decarbonized future.
