Kurita and Membrane Group India Establish Kurita Membrane India Pvt. Ltd., for the Semiconductor Industry in India

Kurita Industries Ltd. (Head office: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; President: Hirohiko Ejiri; hereafter referred to as “Kurita”) has formed a joint venture named Kurita Membrane India Private Limited (hereafter the “JV”) to commence operations focused on water treatment solutions for the electronics sector, particularly the semiconductor industry in India. This venture is in collaboration with Membrane Group India Private Limited (Head office: Gurugram, Haryana, India; Chairman: M M Narang; hereafter “Membrane Group”), which specializes in the design, manufacturing, installation, and servicing of water treatment systems within the country.
As demand for semiconductors surges—largely driven by the rapid advancements in generative AI—and as global trends shift towards diversifying production sites to swiftly address this demand, India has experienced a notable influx of investments from both domestic and international semiconductor companies. This growth is bolstered by government initiatives aimed at attracting such industries. Consequently, India’s semiconductor market is projected to expand from an estimated USD 15 billion in 2020 to over USD 64 billion by 2026, with expectations to reach USD 110 billion by 2030. Additionally, a 10-year roadmap published by the NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) in May 2026 targets the establishment of a semiconductor value chain worth between USD 120 billion and USD 150 billion by 2035.

Kurita offers a wide array of water treatment solutions for the electronics sector, including semiconductors, across Japan, East Asia, North America, and Europe. These solutions are vital for manufacturing processes, encompassing the production and supply of ultrapure water, as well as the recovery and reuse of wastewater, tailored to meet customer requirements and regional specifications. In alignment with our medium-term management plan, “Pioneering Shared Value 2027 (PSV-27),” which prioritizes growth in the electronics sector until fiscal 2027, it is crucial to consistently secure business opportunities in the rapidly expanding Indian market. Given this context, Kurita has partnered with Membrane Group, recognized for its strong engineering, manufacturing, project execution, commissioning, and lifecycle service capabilities, alongside established relationships with industrial clients.
The JV will deliver advanced water treatment, wastewater recycling, resource recovery, water analysis services, and environmental solutions to the electronics sector, including semiconductors, in India. By leveraging Membrane Group’s expertise and track record alongside Kurita’s water treatment technologies and services, which have proven successful in key regions such as Japan, the JV aims to become an “indispensable partner” by providing value through locally suited pricing and environmental considerations. Additionally, in conjunction with the JV and Kurita AquaChemie India Private Limited, which began selling water treatment chemicals in 2024, we will work to enhance Kurita’s presence in India and further solidify our business foundation.
