Thames Water to Begin £20 Million Pipeline Upgrade to Safeguard London’s Water Supply for the Future

On Monday 12 February, the largest water company in the UK will start a project to secure London’s water supply for the future.

The £20 million initiative, spanning three years, aims to upgrade 1.2 miles of old Victorian pipes supplying water to approximately 7,000 properties daily. The initial phase will involve a six-week lane closure on Pentonville Road West (adjacent to Cumming Street).

London’s main water network dates back to the early 19th century. The new pipeline will modernize the infrastructure to meet the demands of the 21st century and help address the increasing need for water.

It will also play a vital role in reducing leaks and bursts in London’s bustling streets, with work extending from Pentonville Road (West and East) to Myddleton Passage.

Jaymin Patel, Head of Programme Delivery, Thames Water, said: “We’re on a mission to drive down leakage, which is why we’re investing to upgrade our ageing Victorian pipes. The work on Pentonville Road is essential and will ensure we continue to deliver a safe and secure water supply to Londoners.”
