Veolia and Mistral AI_ join forces to revolutionize resource efficiency management with generative AI and accelerate the ecological transformation.

Veolia has announced a collaboration with Mistral AI, a prominent player in generative artificial intelligence. This partnership aims to revolutionize the management and oversight of industrial sites related to water management, waste recycling, and local energy production. By merging Mistral AI’s advanced technology with Veolia’s extensive data and expertise, the two companies are paving the way for a new era of efficiency and innovation, significantly aiding in ecological transformation.

This collaboration represents a significant advancement in industrial management. By integrating Mistral’s Large Language Model (LLM) into Veolia’s data systems, a groundbreaking concept emerges—facilitating direct conversations with the plant. This innovative approach will improve transparency and modernize plant oversight, especially in crucial areas like personal safety and water usage management.

Harnessing the capabilities of generative AI, Veolia and Mistral AI are creating an interactive solution that enables employees and stakeholders to collaboratively manage water, waste, and energy plants through real-time discussions. This initiative brings the industry closer to achieving Industry 5.0, promoting the idea of augmented employees, where technology directly enhances human expertise.

With a significant global presence—managing over 3,800 drinking water production facilities, 3,200 wastewater treatment plants, 865 waste treatment sites, and nearly 49,000 thermal facilities—Veolia is well-equipped to leverage this innovation. This initiative aligns with GreenUp, Veolia’s strategic program focused on pollution reduction, decarbonization, and resource regeneration.

The partnership leverages the unique strengths of both organizations. Veolia, with 170 years of experience across 45 countries, provides unmatched expertise in water, waste, and energy management, along with deep operational insights into industrial challenges. Mistral AI, known for its sovereign capabilities and commitment to transparency in AI development, offers a secure and advanced technological solution, ensuring ethical and responsible AI application.

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Simplified access to knowledge: Technicians and operators can automatically retrieve technical knowledge and critical data for both routine and exceptional situations.
  • Enhanced transparency: Stakeholders, including customers, can engage with systems using natural language, facilitating real-time recommendations and proactive problem-solving.
  • Increased operational efficiency: With optimized monitoring and precise recommendations, Veolia’s industrial sites will achieve new levels of performance and sustainability.

“This collaboration with Mistral AI signifies a pivotal step in our dedication to accelerating innovation and effectively addressing the challenges posed by global warming. In line with the GreenUp strategic plan, Veolia aims to enhance efficiencies through digital and artificial intelligence, particularly in optimizing our customers’ water and energy usage, waste sorting and recycling, and improving predictive maintenance. By incorporating generative artificial intelligence into our site and industrial process management, we are bolstering our capacity to innovate and refine our expertise to decarbonize, reduce pollution, and regenerate resources,” stated Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia.

“This partnership illustrates how generative AI can enhance plant intelligence. In recent years, plants have increasingly adopted digital sensors and tools. Our models enable these rich data streams to deliver more valuable insights for operators and Veolia’s customers, accelerating Veolia’s mission to drive ecological transformation,” commented Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral.
