Treatment plant at Alabama, US wins State Excellence Award from Alabama water association

A brand-new treatment plant with an effective and reasonably priced biological treatment approach has received the State Excellence Award from the Water Environment Association of Alabama (AWEA).

The plant’s designers, CDG Engineering, selected the Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) from Lakeside Equipment Corporation because of its durability, use, and scalability for future requirements.

At the Southside, Alabama, US plant where The Eshelman Company provided the SBR, the headworks, mechanical screen system, and lift station pumps are used to move untreated sewage into several tanks for aeration and settling.

The treated water is delivered to the receiving stream using an autonomous effluent pumping system and UV disinfection.

After decades of good management, Southside’s old sewage lagoon system finally reached its limit, but the construction of the new plant has allowed the community maintain economic growth.

Due to its improved capacity, Southside may now look forward to the construction of new residences and the investment of new enterprises.

The US$4.3 million project was lauded by the AWEA judges as a model long-term investment for the wastewater sector.
