The Islamic Development Bank names Dr. Areef Suleman as Group Chief Economist

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has appointed Dr. Areef Suleman as the Group Chief Economist, a decision endorsed by IsDB President, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser.

Dr. Suleman brings extensive expertise in economic development, strategic policy formulation, and leadership in international development, accumulated through a distinguished career at IsDB and other financial institutions.

His association with IsDB began in 2007, holding roles such as Manager Strategy Development and Director of Economic Research and Institutional Learning.

Dr. Suleman’s tenure has been characterized by significant contributions to economic research and policy advocacy, shaping IsDB’s strategic course and initiatives to enhance socioeconomic progress in member nations.

In his current role, Dr. Suleman offers expert insights on economic policy, socio-economic analysis, and data solutions, steering evidence-based interventions to advance the Bank’s mission and goals.

He fosters key partnerships regionally and globally to bolster member countries’ development objectives.

“In these challenging times, member countries are grappling with various crises. Leveraging data and analytics is crucial to maximizing our development impact. I am eager to lead our data-driven initiatives to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development across IsDB member countries,” remarked Dr. Suleman.
