The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has revealed that it has received a proposal from a consortium made up of ACWA Power, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co., and AlSharif Contracting and Commercial Development for the Jubail 4 & 6 Independent Water Project (IWP).
This proposed desalination plant will be located 18 kilometers south of Jubail Industrial City, along the Arabian Gulf coast, in proximity to existing desalination facilities (Jubail Phase 1, Jubail Phase 2, and Jubail 3A & 3B) in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
Upon completion, the Jubail 4 & 6 IWP is expected to produce 600,000 cubic meters of drinkable water daily and will feature an electrical substation.
SWPC has previously indicated its plan to conduct a competitive tendering process to select a private developer or consortium responsible for the project’s development, financing, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance.
The chosen bidder will establish a project company to execute the initiative and will supply the entire water production capacity to SWPC via a 25-year concession agreement, governed by a Water Purchase Agreement (WPA). The Saudi Arabian government will support SWPC’s obligations under the WPA through a credit support agreement.
