SGEL gains contract to develop 1.35GW solar projects in Maharashtra, India

The plants will be constructed in Nashik, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Pune with a total investment of $913.1 million (Rs75.54 billion).

The Indian state of Maharashtra has awarded a contract to SGEL, a subsidiary of state-owned power company SJVN, to create 1.35GW of solar projects.

The projects are expected to require an expenditure of $913.1 million.

In the presence of prominent SJVN executives and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the development’s letter of awards was received.

The projects will be created in Nashik, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Pune, among other locations in Maharashtra. The Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0, a solar program for farmers in Maharashtra, includes them.

Geeta Kapur, managing director and chair of SJVN, said the program is in line with the federal government’s goal of obtaining 50% of its energy from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

A competitive bidding method was used by SGEL to win the projects in a tender that MSEB Agro Power, a division of the government-owned Maharashtra State Electricity Board, released.

The tender’s total capacity was 7GW, with SGEL bidding for 1.5GW. This included 500MW in the first round and 1GW in the second.

The projects are a part of India’s largest feeder-level solarisation scheme.

This development is SGEL’s inaugural contribution to the PM-KUSUM scheme [a plan for an additional 30.8GW of solar capacity].

The projects will be eligible for central financial assistance, which could cover up to 30% of costs.

SJVN is expected to reach 25GW of capacity by 2030 and 50GW by 2040 at a rapid pace.

Juniper Green Energy has placed a fresh order with Suzlon, an Indian renewable energy business, for a 72.45 MW wind farm in Gujarat’s Dwarka area.

Suzlon will provide and erect 23 3.15 MW wind turbine generators as well as hybrid tubular lattice towers.
