SAWACO Water Desalination implements Pani Intelligent Decision Support at SOJECO Plant in Jeddah
SAWACO Water Desalination, the cornerstone of The Saudi Brothers Commercial Group’s (SBCG) water division, has signed a new deal with Pani, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that offers digital operational twin technology to the water processing sector.
In accordance with this arrangement, SAWACO will open the South Jeddah Corniche Desalination Plant (SOJECO) in Saudi Arabia as the first location for Pani’s intelligent decision support platform.
Leading the desalination industry in the Kingdom, SAWACO owns and manages a number of water production plants with a combined desalination capacity of over 250,000 m3/day (62.5 MGD).
The third water production facility built by SAWACO in the area is the seawater desalination plant known as SOJECO.
It provides the factories, hospitals and private housing complexes in Jeddah Industrial Cities 2 and 3 with 16,500 m3/day (4.3 MGD) of potable grade water.
With the Pani platform, the facility’s seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) processes will be optimized, resulting in less downtime, more production and longer equipment life.
“We’re thrilled about the chance to collaborate with such a reputable company as SAWACO on the deployment of Pani at the SOJECO factory. Desalination was a key consideration when we created this platform, and now we have the chance to work with SAWACO to not only enhance daily operations but also significantly advance the development of improved desalination techniques and a more resilient, sustainable water supply for the area. —Devesh Bharadwaj, Pani’s CEO.
One of the Kingdom’s largest projects, Jeddah Industrial City Phase II spans eight million square meters and is situated 35 kilometers south of the capital.
The SOJECO plant is an important provider to the region since it creates “tailor-made” water for the more than 200 factories that have recently been built nearby.
Working with Pani is part of SAWACO’s business growth plan.
Since many years ago, when it comes to the production of water, we have consistently been at the forefront of technological innovation.
By integrating artificial intelligence into routine company operations, Pani’s solution provides a competitive edge and business scalability.

This will assist us in overcoming a number of production-related difficulties and increase production through improved recovery, as well as cut down on energy use and lengthen membrane lifetime. – Nizar Kammourie, SAWACO’s CEO.
Operations for the Pani project at the SOJECO plant will start in Q4 2022.
