OQ Gas Networks SAOG (OQGN), the sole operator of Oman’s natural gas transmission network, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gasunie Waterstof Holding B.V. (Gasunie), a Dutch company specializing in natural gas infrastructure and transportation. This agreement represents a crucial advancement in Oman’s dedication to sustainable energy as part of its Vision 2040.
The partnership is set to explore the establishment of green hydrogen infrastructure in Oman and promote knowledge sharing regarding carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies. This MoU builds on a previous agreement between Oman and the Netherlands, signed in November 2022 during COP27, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in green energy.
The MoU was co-signed by Eng. Mansoor bin Ali Al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, and Ms. Willemien Terpstra, CEO of Gasunie. The collaboration will concentrate on creating a hydrogen supply chain that connects Oman with the Netherlands and Northwest Europe, focusing on developing the necessary hydrogen infrastructure within Oman.
Eng. Mansoor bin Ali Al Abdali highlighted OQGN’s commitment to advancing Oman’s green hydrogen value chain, stating,
“This collaboration will strengthen Oman’s role in the global energy transition and promote innovation in CCUS initiatives, which are crucial for achieving international climate goals.”
This agreement underscores OQGN’s strategic importance in facilitating Oman’s evolution into a leading exporter of green hydrogen, thereby supporting global climate objectives and long-term sustainability.
