ACCIONA has entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement with the Paraíba Water and Sewerage Company (Cagepa) to deliver sanitary sewer services across 85 municipalities in the state of Paraíba. The signing event took place in João Pessoa (PB) and was attended by Governor Lucas Ribeiro, along with ACCIONA executives and senior officials from the state-owned enterprise.
This initiative, which spans a 25-year period and involves an estimated investment of around €498 million, aims to ensure universal access to essential sanitation services for over 1.7 million residents in the Litoral region (including the state capital, João Pessoa) and the Alto Piranhas region (including Cajazeiras). The agreement encompasses the development of 104 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and the establishment of 2,800 kilometers of sewerage collection networks.
In this concession framework, ACCIONA will take charge of the expansion, operation, and maintenance of the entire sewerage infrastructure, while Cagepa will continue to handle water supply and customer service.
ACCIONA has been active in Brazil for nearly 30 years, executing significant infrastructure and basic sanitation initiatives, with contracts spanning Paraná (48 municipalities), Espírito Santo (8 municipalities), and Pernambuco (153 municipalities along with the district of Fernando de Noronha).
Beyond its water and sewerage operations, the company is spearheading the construction of the São Paulo Metro Line 6-Orange, one of the most extensive infrastructure projects in Latin America, with over R$19 billion allocated for investment. ACCIONA has also completed other notable projects in the country, such as Terminal 2 at the Port of Açu (Rio de Janeiro) and the conversion of the historic Júlio Prestes Station (São Paulo) into a premier concert venue.
