Jacobs Appointed to UK’s United Utilities Strategic Solutions Framework until 2035.

Jacobs has been chosen by United Utilities, one of the UK’s largest publicly traded water companies, for its Strategic Solutions Team (SST) to aid in optimizing programs for major capital projects during Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) from 2025 to 2030, and Asset Management Period 9 (AMP9) from 2030 to 2035.

Collaborating with United Utilities and its construction partners, Jacobs will drive program and asset optimization, value engineering, innovation, and standardization across both existing and new assets.

This involves developing efficient, integrated solutions and recommending preferred options based on factors like best value, lowest carbon footprint, and cost-effectiveness. Jacobs will provide technical services ranging from feasibility studies to whole life cost assessments.

The total value of the framework agreement with United Utilities is estimated at around $211 million over the initial six-year contract period, with a potential five-year extension.

“This appointment extends our long-term relationship with United Utilities to more than 20 years, reinforcing our position as their trusted advisor,” said Jacobs Senior Vice President Kate Kenny. “Taking a program level, holistic approach to asset base optimization is critical to challenging norms and devising strategic water solutions to deliver customer and environmental benefits in the North West of England.”

United Utilities serves approximately seven million people in the North West of England, supplying water and wastewater services to three million households and 200,000 businesses.

Jacobs has been supporting United Utilities for over a decade, providing various services from strategic planning to asset optimization and project management.

They have collaborated on critical assets such as the Haweswater Aqueduct, implementing innovative solutions like Dynamic Network Management powered by Jacobs’ Aqua DNA to enhance wastewater network performance. Additionally, Jacobs has assisted United Utilities in successful submissions to Ofwat’s innovation competitions.
