Groundforce names a new Engineering Director

Groundforce Shorco, a specialist in shoring, has appointed Oliver Smith, their former Head of UK Engineering Design, as the Engineering Director. In his new capacity, Oliver will oversee the EU major projects, development, and digitization teams in addition to his current responsibilities for the UK shoring and major projects design teams.

Oliver expressed, “Transitioning from my previous role to this new one will involve spearheading our technical strategy for business development and digitization as we adapt to the advancements in technology and customer service.”

As a Chartered Civil Engineer and Chartered Manager with over 14 years of experience in temporary works, geotechnics, and structural design across consultants, contractors, and suppliers, Oliver brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. He initially joined Groundforce in 2011, serving in design positions within the shoring and major projects teams before gaining experience in senior engineering and project management roles at Kier and Mott MacDonald. He returned to Groundforce in 2021 as the Head of UK Engineering Design, holding a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with Construction Management from Leeds University.

Paul Donovan, the managing director of Groundforce, remarked, “This promotion was an easy decision for us. Oliver has demonstrated his technical prowess and leadership abilities over the past two years, and I am confident that he will continue to ensure that our technical and design teams deliver and develop innovative engineering solutions for our customers.”
