Environment Agency has new Flood Warning Services

The Environment Agency has introduced new Flood Warning Services in a number of places across the East Midlands in order to alert hundreds of additional home owners to the potential of flooding.

Flood Warnings alert the public to the possibility of flooding in their house or company and assist individuals in making informed decisions about how to respond.

Flood Alert, Flood Warning, and Severe Flood Warning are the three sorts of messages. Each type can be triggered by specific weather or river conditions that result in floods.

Paul Lockhart, Flood and Coastal Risk Manager for the East Midlands said:

“We want to ensure that everyone has as much time as possible to prepare for flooding which is why we’re pleased that there are more communities across the East Midlands which will now be able to receive our free flood warning service.”

Additional government money has enabled the Environment Agency to invest in the cutting-edge technology and infrastructure required to establish a flood warning service in over 200 towns across England. Between now and the end of 2023, an additional 62,000 properties at risk of flooding will receive Flood Warnings.

The Environment Agency will offer drop-in events to allow residents to discuss flood risk, sign up for flood warnings, and strengthen their flood resilience.
