ACCIONA has finalized an agreement to acquire an 80% stake in Vertical Earth, an infrastructure contractor based in Georgia. This acquisition positions Atlanta as the key center for the growth of ACCIONA’s Infrastructure division in the United States. The transaction is anticipated to be completed by the year’s end, pending standard regulatory approvals. Brett Johnson, the founder and CEO of Vertical Earth, will maintain a 20% ownership in the company and continue in his role as chief executive.
Established in 1997, Vertical Earth has extensive experience in transportation, civil construction, and structures, generating revenues of US$217 million in 2025 (€191 million). The company employs over 600 professionals across Georgia and Florida. This acquisition will significantly enhance ACCIONA’s self-performing execution capabilities in a vital market for its Infrastructure division, providing valuable local insights and access to essential suppliers and talent.
The U.S. represents 20% of the global infrastructure sector, with a contracting potential of US$303 billion this year, emphasizing public-private partnerships (PPP). Additionally, there is a robust project pipeline in the Southeastern states, fueled by ambitious investment plans from Departments of Transportation. In the past two years, ACCIONA has expanded its total project portfolio in the U.S. tenfold, reaching approximately €70 billion, including major projects like the SR-400 highway in Georgia and the Calcasieu Bridge in Louisiana.
