Iberdrola obtains final authorization for the NECEC transmission line between the United States and Canada

Avangrid, the U.S. subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group, has achieved a significant milestone by securing the final permit for the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) transmission line project. This 233 kilometer high-voltage line will link the United States and Canada, marking the culmination of a rigorous, multi-year regulatory process. The NECEC project is poised to become one of the most impactful energy initiatives in the region.

Once operational by the end of this year, the NECEC will deliver 1,200 megawatts of reliable hydroelectric power from Quebec, Canada, to New England, primarily benefiting Massachusetts. This clean energy supply is expected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 3.6 million metric tons annually. Additionally, the project has already created over 1,600 jobs during its construction phase.

The transmission line will enhance the reliability and security of New England’s electricity grid, promote more competitive energy prices, and support socioeconomic growth. It will provide clean energy to approximately 1.2 million households and generate net benefits of around €2.6 billion for Massachusetts electricity customers, leading to monthly savings on their energy bills. This project represents a transformative step toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future for the region.
