In a significant move towards merging artificial intelligence with sustainable energy, ADNOC, Masdar, XRG, and Microsoft have entered into a strategic agreement aimed at accelerating AI adoption within ADNOC’s operations and supporting Microsoft’s global energy requirements for AI and data centers. This announcement was made at the ENACT Majlis in Abu Dhabi, just ahead of the ADIPEC 2025 conference.
As part of this collaboration, ADNOC and Microsoft will work together to develop AI agents that will enhance autonomous operations, improve efficiency, and bolster digital capabilities throughout ADNOC’s value chain. Microsoft will also facilitate AI deployment via advanced digital tools and workforce upskilling initiatives. Furthermore, all four companies will join forces to create clean energy infrastructure and sustainable power solutions for Microsoft’s growing global network of AI and data centers.
This agreement builds upon the longstanding partnership between ADNOC and Microsoft, formally incorporating Masdar and XRG into the alliance to co-create future-ready energy systems.
His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, and Chairman of Masdar and XRG, stated, “the partnership exemplifies the UAE’s commitment to integrating AI into industry while developing the energy systems that will power AI on a global scale.”
ADNOC became the first energy company to implement generative AI enterprise-wide in November 2023 using Microsoft Copilot. To date, over 40,000 employees have undergone AI training, with utilization rates surpassing 90%, leading to an impressive gain of more than 70,000 productivity hours each month.
Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith remarked, “the partnership illustrates how cross-sector collaboration is vital for delivering secure, sustainable, and inclusive energy solutions for an AI-driven future.”
This agreement further establishes Abu Dhabi as a global center for energy innovation by merging ADNOC’s industrial expertise with Microsoft’s digital leadership, alongside Masdar and XRG’s clean energy capabilities, to responsibly advance the next era of AI in the energy sector.
