Lantania Gains €21.7M Contract for New WWTP in Bitola, North Macedonia

Lantania’s first project abroad is in North Macedonia, where it has secured a €21.7 million (taxes excluded) contract to design and construct a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Bitola, a city in the southwest.

The facility, which was awarded by the Macedonian Ministry of Environment to a consortium consisting of Lantania, Greece’s Karkanias Technologies, and local partner Stenton Gradba, will treat an average daily flow of 27,090 m³ and serve an equivalent population of 112,474 residents.

Advanced infrastructure, such as administration buildings, preliminary treatment systems, sludge dewatering, electrical substations, and a blower room, will be incorporated into the WWTP to enable effective, sustainable wastewater management. Operational control and real-time monitoring are made possible by a SCADA system.

Primary clarifiers, activated sludge biological reactors, secondary clarifiers, a disinfection unit, a sludge recirculation and pumping station, and an overflow structure are some of the important components. Anaerobic sludge digestion, biogas generation, and sludge storage are also integrated into the design, and all required pipework is in place to support future expansions.
