Welspun Enterprises Limited (WEL), the infrastructure and energy arm of Welspun World, has secured a significant contract from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to Develop, Construct, and Manage a 2,000 MLD (million litres per day) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at the Bhandup Complex in Mumbai, as per Business Standard.
The new water treatment facility in Mumbai is valued at Rs 4,123.88 crore (approximately $500 million) and is aimed at tackling the city’s enduring water scarcity challenges. Positioned within BMC’s Bhandup Complex, which presently serves Mumbai City’s water requirements, it is poised to be one of the largest in capacity globally.
WEL has partnered with Veolia, a prominent water technology company, as its technology collaborator for this project.
The agreement covers the planning, construction, and operation and maintenance of the plant, with an O&M component of Rs 1,880.44 crore. The project is set to be completed within 48 months, following which WEL will oversee operations and maintenance for 15 years.
