WABAG secures $317 million desalination plant contract in Saudi Arabia.

The Indian water technology company VA Tech Wabag (WABAG) has obtained a significant Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) contract worth 1.2 billion Saudi riyals ($317 million) for a large seawater desalination initiative in Saudi Arabia.

This project, granted by the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), entails the establishment of a Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination facility capable of processing 300 million liters per day (MLD), equating to 300,000 cubic meters daily (m3/day).

The plant will be situated on Saudi Arabia’s west coast, close to the city of Yanbu al-Bahr, south of the Red Sea. Completion is anticipated within 30 months, as stated by the company to the stock exchange.

The contract’s scope includes the full design, engineering, supply, construction, and commissioning of this greenfield project. The facility will utilize Dual Media Filters (DMF), followed by a dual-pass Reverse Osmosis system and re-mineralization techniques to generate potable water.

“We are incredibly honored and proud to secure this substantial order from our esteemed client SWA, which will aid in achieving the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030,” remarked Rohan Mittal, Head – Strategy & Business Growth – GCC, WABAG.

SWA, previously known as the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), is responsible for regulating and overseeing water sector activities in Saudi Arabia to enhance water sustainability, a crucial aspect of the nation’s Vision 2030.

The organization manages over 40 desalination plants with a total production capacity surpassing 11 million cubic meters daily, along with more than 139 ground and surface water purification facilities generating over 4 million cubic meters per day.
