Paris Air Show: TotalEnergies Signs a Deal with Quatra to Secure Feedstock for its Biorefineries

TotalEnergies and Quatra, a European leader in the collection and recycling of used cooking oil, have entered into a 15-year agreement starting in 2026. This contract involves the supply of 60,000 tons of used cooking oil annually to TotalEnergies’ biorefineries, ensuring a reliable feedstock for the production of biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

From Used Cooking Oil Collection to Biofuel Production in France

As part of the agreement, Quatra will gather used cooking oil directly from restaurants, restaurant chains, and industries throughout France and Europe. The collected oil will be processed at Quatra facilities for filtering before being sent to TotalEnergies’ biorefineries for the production of road biofuels and SAF. TotalEnergies has transformed its refineries in La Mède, located in southern France, and Grandpuits, near Paris, into biorefineries.

  • La Mède
The La Mède biorefinery, which began operations in 2019, boasts an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of biofuel. TotalEnergies is currently the sole producer of HVO biodiesel in France at this site. Additionally, this year, La Mède will also produce sustainable aviation fuel for airports in southern France.
  • Grandpuits
The conversion of the Grandpuits site into a zero-crude complex includes a biorefinery with the capacity to produce 230,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel annually, with commissioning expected in 2026. TotalEnergies has partnered with SARIA, a European leader in the collection and recycling of organic waste into sustainable products, which will provide the majority of the feedstock for this site.

“I am thrilled about this strategic partnership with Quatra, which helps us secure the necessary feedstock for biofuel production in our biorefineries. Advancing biofuels is a key strategic objective for our company. By directly lowering the carbon intensity of the energy products used by our customers, we are actively collaborating with them as part of our net-zero strategy, alongside society,” said Valérie Goff, Senior Vice President of Renewable Fuels & Chemicals at TotalEnergies.

“At Quatra, we are committed to establishing long-term partnerships with leading industrial companies that emphasize logistics, environmental responsibility, and economic sustainability. The agreement between Quatra France and TotalEnergies exemplifies this commitment. By providing locally sourced used cooking oil, we contribute to a sustainable value chain. This allows us to concentrate on our primary business: the efficient collection of used cooking oil across France, enabling TotalEnergies to convert this valuable resource into biofuel,” stated Pol Van Pollaert, Co-CEO of Quatra.
