UC’s Novel Battery Design Promises a Brighter Future

Jimmy Jiang and his colleagues at the University of Cincinnati developed a water-free battery with a revolutionary architecture that could revolutionise large-scale energy storage for wind and solar farms.

Traditional automobile batteries have energy density and electrochemical stability constraints. The novel battery architecture avoids the need for expensive membrane separators while still producing nearly 4 volts of electricity.

Jiang believes that this breakthrough will have a huge impact on green energy and anticipates a battery revolution within the next 20 years. The research team has filed provisional patent applications, demonstrating their dedication to furthering battery technological breakthroughs.

Major Renewables Project Delivers Green Energy for the Green Screen

SSE Energy Solutions erected a 3MW solar panel system on Sky Studios Elstree’s rooftops, supplying 40% of the site’s yearly energy demand. The project reduces carbon emissions by 487 tonnes and contributes to Sky’s goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2030.

Through their Whole System Thinking methodology, SSE supplied the solar PV system to Sky at no upfront cost, allowing them to purchase the necessary materials and oversee the end-to-end installation process.

This partnership between SSE and Sky exemplifies how organisations may collaborate to achieve sustainability goals and decrease environmental impact, and it emphasises the importance of renewable energy in lowering carbon emissions.

ADNOC harnesses renewable geothermal energy in the UAE

ADNOC and Tabreed are collaborating to decarbonize building cooling in Masdar City by utilising geothermal heat, a clean and renewable source of energy abundant in the UAE. This initiative is in line with the UAE National Energy Strategy 2050 and ADNOC’s efforts to create low-carbon solutions to reach net zero emissions by 2045.

The incorporation of geothermal energy into district cooling operations has the potential to dramatically reduce power demand for cooling from the grid, assisting in the decarbonization of one of the region’s most energy-intensive sectors. This agreement represents a critical step forward in the UAE’s effort to diversify its energy mix and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

The event’s goal is to promote sustainability and the circular economy. Over 130 presenters and 250 exhibitors will present solutions that promote sustainability, decrease environmental impact, and drive positive change.

Attendees will be able to network and form new collaborations. The event’s goal is to establish a dynamic forum that promotes debate, displays cutting-edge ideas, and pushes practical change to address serious environmental issues.

Carbon Removal Start-Up Successfully Completes the World’s First Seaweed Baling and Sinking Test to Combat Climate Change

Seafields, a carbon removal company based in the United Kingdom, has completed the world’s first seaweed biomass sinking trials for carbon removal to assess the impact on the surrounding environment.

The trial will evaluate four distinct forms of biomass for their ability to store carbon for millennia, so helping to reduce future atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. The trial will be conducted in collaboration with Running Tide and the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI).

The bales were deposited in June during an excursion to AWI’s LTER Observatory HAUSGARTEN on the RV Polarstern at a depth of 3483 metres, and the team plans to deploy a remotely operated vehicle from Polarstern to the deposition site during next year’s expedition to the long-term observatory in the Fram Strait.
