Seawater has power. Waterlight can generate power from seawater.

You don’t have to fear darkness anymore because you only need salt water.

Waterlight is a breakthrough lantern that generates light and power using one of the world’s most abundant resources, the sea.

You only need two cups of seawater to have 45 days of clean and renewable energy. How amazing it is.

What is watertight?

Watertight is a device developed by Colombian renewable energy, E-Dina.

WaterLight is made of 100% recyclable materials and is waterproof. So it’s sustainable no matter where it ends up.

This durable design is inspired by the Colombian Wayúu community and their ancestral connection with the sea.

It can help off-grid populations that need an electrical source to power a light, charge a phone or listen to the radio.

It can also be used in the recreation business for outdoorsmen and women camping in distant regions and in education for turning on a computer or television.

Is it possible to generate power from the sea?

WaterLight operates 24 hours a day by ionization, in which ions in the saline liquid combine with magnesium and copper plates on the lamp’s interior to generate electricity.

Although this is a well-known process, E-Dina has found a method to sustain the chemical reaction over time so that it can be utilized to power a light source.

“They developed a method of ionisation that lasts longer than any previous technique,” Pineda told Dezeen.

One lamp can offer around 5,600 hours of energy over its lifetime, which amounts to two to three years of use depending on how frequently it is required.
