Neoenergia and Honda join forces to accelerate green mobility in Brazil

Green Hydrogen: The Future of Clean Energy
Produced through water electrolysis using renewable energy, green hydrogen is critical for decarbonizing heavy transport and industry. Iberdrola (Neoenergia’s parent company) leads similar projects in Europe and sees Brazil as a global benchmark for this technology.

Neoenergia and Honda announced a partnership to develop green hydrogen initiatives for urban mobility and road transport in Brazil. The project will focus on Neoenergia’s first green hydrogen service station, located in Brasília, with an investment of over 30 million reais under the National Electric Energy Agency’s (ANEEL) Research, Development, and Innovation (PD&I) Program. The station will begin operations in December 2025.

Key Goals of the Partnership
Honda will participate in research, technological demonstrations, and feasibility studies for green hydrogen applications, focusing on urban and industrial mobility, and technical tests with the Honda CR-V FCEV (a plug-in hybrid SUV with a hydrogen fuel cell) for 6 months. Both companies aim to accelerate the decarbonization of the automotive sector, aligning with their carbon neutrality goal by 2050.

Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia, stated:
“This collaboration reinforces our commitment to innovative solutions for electrifying and decarbonizing Brazil’s economy. Together with Honda, we will develop sustainable technologies to consolidate our leadership in the energy transition.”

Arata Ichinose, CEO of Honda Brazil, added:
“Brazil has the potential to be a global leader in green hydrogen. With 30 years of experience in this technology, initiatives like this are key to decarbonizing mobility and advancing toward a carbon-neutral society.”
