LG Chem and AlKhorayef Group Announce Launch of RO Membrane Production Facility in Saudi Arabia.

LG Chem and AlKhorayef Group have entered into an agreement to establish a facility focused on enhancing innovation in reverse osmosis (RO) membrane production, with support from the Saudi Water Authority (SWA). The signing of this strategic partnership took place at SWA’s headquarters in Riyadh, witnessed by H.E. Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim, President of SWA.

The initiative aims to localize desalination technologies, boost local content, and promote sustainability through a regulatory framework and integrated infrastructure that encourages innovation and research. Scheduled to commence operations in early 2026, the facility will utilize advanced technologies to produce high-efficiency RO membranes, which are vital for water desalination and treatment facilities throughout the region.

Mohammed AlKhorayef, CEO of AlKhorayef Group, highlighted the project’s significance for local industries: “This facility marks a significant advancement in our mission to provide high-quality, locally manufactured water treatment solutions. This initiative will generate jobs and open new avenues for Saudi nationals in the water sector.”

Dr. Hon Hyung, Vice President of LG Chem, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that it demonstrates LG Chem’s dedication to delivering innovative solutions that support Saudi Arabia’s water sustainability objectives. “This collaboration enhances our capacity to address the increasing demand for advanced water treatment solutions and aligns with our strategy to boost localization and technology transfer to Saudi Arabia,” he remarked.

The initiative will also involve cooperation with the Water Technologies Innovation and Research Institute (WTIIRA), the research branch of the Saudi Water Authority, to promote research, development, and specialized training programs for university students. This effort aims to improve knowledge transfer and cultivate national talent, reinforcing sustainability in water resources and enhancing Saudi Arabia’s technological independence in the sector.

By fostering investment in local industries and advancing innovation in water treatment, the partnership aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals for water security and industrial growth.
