IberBlue Wind build the La Pinta With a capacity of 900MW

The Spanish offshore wind farm will span an area of around 316 km2 and will have up to 55 turbines, each with an 18 MW capacity, to create renewable energy for more than 670,000 families.

IberBlue Wind has announced intentions to invest more than €2.5 billion in the development and maintenance of the 990 MW La Pinta floating offshore wind farm in Andalusia, Spain.

The Spanish floating wind farm, which will be built off the shores of Granada and Almeria, will cover an area of around 316 km2.

IberBlue Wind is a joint venture (JV) between Simply Blue Group of Ireland, Proes Consultores, and FF New Energy Ventures of Spain.

After Nao Victoria, the La Pinta project is the JV’s second floating offshore wind farm in Andalusia. It will have up to 55 turbines, each with an 18 MW capacity.

The proposed floating offshore wind farm is intended to provide renewable energy for more than 670,000 homes once it is operational.

IberBlue Wind has submitted the initial project document (IPD) to the Ministry of Environmental Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO). The technological specifications of the floating offshore wind farm are included in the IPD.

The La Pinta floating offshore wind farm will be built 15–35 kilometers from the coast to reduce its visual effect. It is estimated to generate about 3,300 jobs.

Julio Vera, stakeholder engagement and policy director for IberBlue Wind, stated:

Andalusia is a key area for offshore wind development in Spain.” It has a large wind resource, adequate infrastructure, and the potential to become a model for this type of project.

Then he continued saying:

The coasts of Granada and Almeria have favorable conditions for offshore wind farms, although it will be necessary to reinforce the electricity network in the surrounding area to take all the energy generated.

The La Pinta floating offshore wind farm is anticipated to use novel floating offshore wind technology to provide carbon-free electricity and contribute to the Spanish government’s goal of installing 1–3 GW of offshore wind energy by the end of this decade.

IberBlue Wind proposes to build the Nao Victoria floating offshore wind project in November 2022. The 990 MW plant will be built in the Alboran Sea, off the beaches of Cadiz and Malaga.
