Fluence Energy,a subsidiary of Siemens, along with Excelsior Energy Capital, a key investor in renewable energy infrastructure, have announced a partnership to install 2.2 GWh of battery storage projects in the United States starting in 2025.
These projects will utilize batteries, modules, and support systems manufactured domestically.
As part of the agreement, Excelsior will implement Fluence’s Gridstack Pro product line to provide reliable capacity and flexible power, enhancing the resilience of the U.S. electricity grid.
These initiatives are expected to encourage a domestic supply chain for essential clean technology manufacturing in the U.S., directly supporting American jobs and increasing battery storage production.
Battery cells for the projects will primarily be produced in Tennessee, while Fluence will manufacture the battery modules in Utah.
Anne Marie Denman, Co-Founder and Partner at Excelsior Energy Capital, shared her excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We aim to partner with organizations that share our vision—focusing on long-term fundamentals and stability through decisive investments. We found a natural synergy with Fluence, impressed by their significant commitment to sourcing battery cells domestically and their strategy of situating supply chains close to demand. This partnership positions us as early leaders in the domestic supply of BESS, which stabilizes our investments in the U.S.”
“We are thrilled to assist Excelsior in deploying 2.2 GWh of Gridstack Pro. This agreement underscores the competitiveness of battery storage systems manufactured in the U.S.,” said John Zahurancik, President of Fluence Americas. “Excelsior and other clients recognize U.S.-made products as a valuable way to reduce project uncertainties while bolstering American jobs and local economies.”
Announced in October, Gridstack Pro is among the first energy storage solutions anticipated to qualify as domestic content under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
Recent updates from the U.S. Department of Treasury have accelerated commercial activities supporting these U.S.-manufactured products.
Chris Frantz, Partner at Excelsior Energy Capital, added, “The Excelsior team is enthusiastic about this new agreement with Fluence. It mitigates battery supply risks for our projects and fosters a strong partnership with an industry leader. Together, we will utilize our strengths to promote sustainable growth and innovation in the sector.”
Fluence, one of the largest suppliers of energy storage systems, has been developing a diversified supply chain for several years to meet the growing demand for large-scale, high-performance, and financially viable systems. Disruptions in the supply chain due to war, terrorism, weather events, trade barriers, and geopolitical uncertainties have significantly impacted the renewable sector.
Energy storage is crucial for a reliable power grid, necessitating more options for safe, high-quality, and low-risk system supplies to support leading power developers and utilities.
By collaborating with Fluence, Excelsior is demonstrating its commitment to utilizing U.S.-manufactured technologies as it expands its clean energy portfolio, having recently announced a 2 GW supply agreement for domestically produced solar panels.
