Feds support water treatment infrastructure in Nunavut with $2M investment.

The Government of Canada, represented by Minister Dan Vandal and Nunavut’s Community and Government Services Minister David Joanasie, announced a $2 million investment to develop proposals for upgrading drinking water treatment facilities in Clyde River, Coral Harbour, and Igloolik.

This investment, made through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, aims to improve the quality and accessibility of drinking water for Nunavummiut. The funding will be used for studies on design options, cost estimates, and technical aspects.

Additionally, the design and construction phases for upgrades to drinking water treatment facilities in Arctic Bay, Grise Fiord, Pond Inlet, Rankin Inlet, and Sanikiluaq can now begin, following the completion of an additional planning phase project. This project received a joint investment from the federal and territorial governments.

“This investment into critical planning projects contributes greatly to our goal of enhancing the drinking water infrastructure in Northern communities, and is a key step towards ensuring that Nunavummiut have access to safe and reliable community water sources,” said Joanasie.
