Ecolab survey reveals high expectations for water conservation

According to new data from a global survey done and commissioned by Ecolab, a global sustainability leader providing water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions and services, consumers have high expectations for firms’ roles in water availability and conservation.

Thousands of customers from eight nations participated in the Water, Sustainability, and Climate Change poll. According to the results of the poll:

74% of customers say that firms should prioritize water conservation as a high or critical priority.
Only 25% of consumers felt firms are doing enough to preserve water; and more than 60% of customers stated they or a family member had difficulty acquiring drinking water.

Ecolab Senior Vice-President and Market Head for Southeast Asia,Gregory Lukasik said:

“We recognize the necessity of tackling water scarcity, especially in regions such as Asia, where 1.9 billion people lack access to drinking water and basic sanitation – with the global demand for water expected to increase by 40% by 2030. Our progress at Ecolab sets the foundation to push further and work hard with our customers and communities to improve the efficiency of all our water supplies.”

Every year on March 22, World Water Day raises awareness of water and sanitation challenges. The topic for 2023 is “Accelerating Change,” and it calls for sustained progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6.

To commemorate the milestone, Ecolab highlighted the company’s leading role during a full year of transformation and success.

Highlights from the company’s Year in Water include:

Ecolab assisted our customers in saving 215 billion gallons of water in 2022, which is comparable to roughly 730 million people’s drinking water needs. Ecolab wants to assist clients save 300 billion gallons of water per year by 2030, which is comparable to 1 billion people’s annual drinking water consumption.

Ecolab joined DuPont, Gap Inc., Reckitt Benckiser, Starbucks, and the United States International Development Finance Corporation in investing $139.9 million in WaterEquity’s Global Access Fund IV to improve water access, sanitation, and hygiene for up to 5 million people in water-stressed regions such as Southeast Asia.

Ecolab created the Ecolab Water for Climate program to assist businesses in responding to the growing effects of the energy crisis, climate change, and water scarcity.

The program is aimed to address these difficulties by delivering holistic solutions such as auditing, consulting, engineering, advanced chemistries, and digital technologies that enable enterprise-wide reduce, reuse, and recycle water initiatives.
