CSI Solar gains EPC contract for 200MWh energy storage in Australia.

Canadian Solar Inc. has announced that its subsidiary, CSI Solar Co., Ltd. (“CSI Solar”), through its e-STORAGE division, has secured a turnkey EPC contract for 100 MW / 200 MWh energy storage solutions from Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Australia for the Terang energy storage project in Victoria, Australia.

FRV Australia, part of Jameel Energy and the Canadian infrastructure fund OMERS, is a prominent developer of sustainable energy solutions.

e-STORAGE and FRV Australia have signed an Energy Storage Supply Agreement along with a Long-Term Service Agreement. Construction is set to begin in August 2024.

For the Terang project, e-STORAGE will provide its latest proprietary energy storage solution, SolBank 3.0. This system offers over 5 MWh of capacity within a 20-foot container. Compared to its predecessor, SolBank 3.0 features a 45% increase in capacity and a 12% reduction in required layout space.

Additionally, its efficient cooling system can lower auxiliary energy consumption by 30%. The system is equipped with a multi-level fire detection, alarm, and extinguishing system to address thermal risks.

Situated in Terang, Victoria, this project will mark FRV Australia’s first independent energy storage initiative and is anticipated to generate numerous jobs during both construction and operational phases.

Carlo Frigerio, CEO of FRV Australia, stated: “Launching our first large-scale energy storage project is a significant achievement for FRV Australia. This initiative enhances our position in the renewable energy sector in Australia and opens avenues for future growth and opportunities.”

Colin Parkin, President of e-STORAGE, remarked: “We are grateful for FRV Australia’s confidence in e-STORAGE for the development of this 100 MW / 200 MWh energy storage system in Terang, Australia. Utilizing our advanced SolBank 3.0 technology, this project will not only support the grid during peak demand but also provide considerable benefits to the local community. We look forward to collaborating with FRV Australia on future projects.”
