Binnies celebrates 100 years of water excellence in Singapore

On December 5, 2022, Binnies, a member of the RSK Group and a provider of water, wastewater, and flood resilience solutions, celebrated its 100th year of water excellence in Singapore.

Binnies is getting ready for a future powered by new digital water technologies, with advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), digital twins, and data analytics, as they reflect on a century of collaboration with Singapore in securing a sufficient and affordable water supply for future generations.

Singapore is one of the most water-stressed countries in the world due to its island location, lack of water resources, and limited acreage for water storage, yet it is also a global success story in water resilience.

The cooperation of Binnies across the RSK Group and with innovation leaders will ensure that the next 100 years see as much success as the first as Singapore moves forward with goals to reach a water-sustainable future.

With a sophisticated digital twin platform already under development, Binnies will reportedly look to expand into artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and more detailed data collection for a more technologically advanced platform that will produce greater efficiencies at a lower cost.

William Yong, managing director of Binnies Singapore, said, “Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Binnies in Singapore is a monumental opportunity for us to commemorate our legacy as we look to the future.”

Binnies has been an active and encouraging participant in Singapore’s quest for water independence since 1922, contributing significantly to numerous water initiatives.

Four of Singapore’s five desalination plants, including the SingSpring Desalination Plant, a large-scale seawater desalination facility for the nation located in Tuas, the Tuaspring Desalination Plant, a seawater reverse osmosis plant, the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant, the only facility in Singapore capable of treating both sea and reservoir water, and the Jurong Island Desalination Plan, have been supplied by Binnies in recent years More recently, Binnies completed a feasibility study for subterranean stormwater drainage and storage systems that PUB had requested in order to lessen the effects of rainfall-induced floods.

The CEO and creator of RSK Group, Alan Ryder, said of Binnies: “Binnies is a name synonymous with world-class engineering and has achieved remarkable success in Singapore and the region. It is exciting to see the organisation thrive further after joining the RSK Group in early 2021.”

“By combining our low- and zero-carbon solutions and digital innovations, Binnies and the other companies in the RSK Group are assisting governments and organisations around the world in reducing environmental consequences.

We look forward to working collaboratively with a variety of partners to strengthen Singapore’s position as a worldwide hydro hub as we commemorate Binnies’ 100th anniversary in Singapore.
