Acwa, in collaboration with the Water Transmission Company (WTCO), has entered into a Technical Services Agreement with the Syrian Ministry of Energy and the international engineering and consultancy firm Fichtner. This agreement aims to analyze Syria’s water resources and devise strategies for seawater desalination and water transmission.
This new agreement builds upon the Joint Development Agreement (JDA) established with the Ministry in February 2026, which initiated the technical studies outlined in that agreement. The project will evaluate Syria’s water resources and future requirements, pinpointing key seawater desalination and transmission solutions to enhance water security and facilitate long-term planning within the country’s water sector.
Mohamed Fata Nahhas, CEO of Acwa Syria, remarked: “We are eager to commence the detailed technical work essential for defining the solutions needed to address the challenges and goals outlined in the JDA. This will offer the Ministry of Energy a comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of available resources, anticipated demand, and the priority projects necessary for a sustainable water system.”
The project will be conducted in close collaboration with the relevant Syrian authorities, resulting in a roadmap for a sustainable water system that ranks options based on their impact, feasibility, and speed of implementation.
