ACCIONA has successfully completed the renovation and expansion of the Tróia wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) located in Grândola, Portugal. This initiative, executed for TROIARESORT, a tourism and residential development on the Tróia peninsula, encompasses civil engineering works, technological enhancements, and the reactivation of the facility.
Additionally, ACCIONA will manage the operation and maintenance of the WWTP for an initial period of six months. Collaborating partners in this venture include the Town Council of Grândola, INFRATROIA, and the firms TPF and PROGESTEAM, which oversaw the construction activities.
These enhancements will markedly boost the wastewater treatment capacity for the Tróia peninsula, catering to a population equivalent to 16,500 residents with an average daily flow of 4,356 m³.
The facility employs membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology to generate treated water suitable for irrigation on golf courses and other landscaped areas within the complex, thus aiding in the preservation of local ecosystems.
This upgraded infrastructure signifies a significant advancement in the sustainable management of water resources in the region, enhancing the capability to address water scarcity while promoting the sustainable development of one of Portugal’s key tourist destinations.
Through this initiative, ACCIONA reinforces its dedication to sustainable water management by implementing innovative solutions aimed at optimizing water resources and advancing towards a more circular and resilient operational model.
