Interim Leadership Team Starts at Ofwat

Ofwat has announced the appointment of Chris Walters as its new interim Chief Executive and Helen Campbell as the interim Executive Director of Delivery.

Previously, Mr. Walters served as the Senior Director for the Price Review, while Ms. Campbell held the position of Senior Director for Sector Performance at Ofwat. These new roles were revealed on August 7, following David Black’s resignation as Chief Executive on August 5.

As interim Chief Executive, Mr. Walters will lead the organization and manage engagement with the UK government, the Welsh Government, and stakeholders as the recommendations from the Independent Water Commission (IWC) are implemented. Enhancing effective regulation is crucial for both customers and environmental protection, playing a key role in rebuilding trust within the sector.

In her capacity as interim Executive Director for Delivery, Ms. Campbell will oversee the execution of the PR24 five-year expenditure plan, advance the £50 billion pipeline of significant projects, and work to stabilize Thames Water as swiftly as possible.

Mr. Walters expressed his thoughts, stating:

“I’m honored to step into this role and extend my gratitude to David Black for his leadership in recent years. There is essential work ahead as we move towards establishing a new regulatory body in England and a new regulatory framework in Wales, following the government’s announcement regarding Ofwat’s future. My priority is to ensure that we continue to serve our customers and protect the environment during this transition.”

Ms. Campbell added:

“The upcoming five years will witness the largest investment in the water sector to date, with over £104 billion allocated by companies in England and Wales. While delivering this ambitious program will be challenging, it holds the potential to transform our rivers, seas, and waterways.”
