80% of the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project’s construction is completed.

At the beginning of Q1 2025, NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) reported that development on all project sites—the transmission system, wind garden, solar farm, and green hydrogen facility—had reached 80% completion.

Construction of the largest green hydrogen plant in the world is moving quickly at Oxagon in NEOM. Wind turbines, hydrogen storage containers, electrolysers, the cold box, and pipe racks are among the milestone pieces of equipment that are now being delivered and installed. With 4 GW of solar and wind power generating expected to be finished by mid-2026, electrolyser commissioning, and the first ammonia product availability in 2027, the project is still on track.

The world’s largest green-hydrogen-based ammonia production facility powered by renewable energy is being established by the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC), an equal production joint venture between ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM. Up to 600 tons of carbon-free hydrogen in the form of green ammonia will be produced daily by this massive facility, which will serve as an affordable option for the worldwide industrial and transportation sectors.

Proven technology form the foundation of our project. Using ammonia to transport the hydrogen to international markets and integrating these technologies, especially at this scale, are novel aspects. The project will reduce carbon emissions (CO2) by around five million metric tons annually.

In addition to being the exclusive off-taker of the green hydrogen generated at the NGHC facility in the form of green ammonia, Air Products is the principal EPC contractor and system integrator.

With the help of a $6.1 billion non-recourse loan from 23 domestic, regional, and foreign banks and financial institutions, including SIDF and NIF, NGHC reached a historic financial closure of $8.4 billion in May 2023.

By laying the groundwork for Saudi Arabia to emerge as the world’s top producer of hydrogen and solidifying its position as a major actor in the global energy industry, this innovative project directly advances the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals to promote economic diversification and global leadership in clean energy.
