The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) is excited to share that it has reached financial closure for the Al-Haer Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) project in Riyadh, which has an estimated cost of approximately SAR 1.8 billion. This initiative will be carried out by the private sector through a consortium that includes Miahona Company, BESIX Company, and Marafiq Company.
The facility will be capable of treating 200,000 cubic meters of sewage per day, supported by a 32 km integrated system for transmitting treated sewage, which can handle up to 400,000 cubic meters daily.
Furthermore, a pumping station and storage tanks with a total capacity of 200,000 cubic meters will be built to promote the effective and sustainable use of treated sewage across various sectors.
This project represents a key achievement in furthering Saudi Arabia’s environmental sustainability goals and enhancing the quality of life. It is set to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2026, with a 25-year agreement in place to ensure ongoing service delivery and effectiveness.
In this regard, Eng. Khalid Al Qureshi, CEO of the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), highlighted that the Al-Haer project is a vital strategic initiative developed in partnership with the private sector, utilizing the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model to guarantee long-term operational efficiency and continuity of services.
