With LONGi Photovoltaic Modules, Colombia Inaugurates Its First Solar Project Aligned with International Standards

Located in La Esperanza, Norte de Santander, Pétalo del Norte I is set to generate over 43 GWh of clean energy annually, sufficient to power more than 32,000 individuals and prevent approximately 13,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. During its construction phase, the project created 270 direct jobs, with 64% local involvement and an impressive 30% female workforce, highlighting the sector’s dedication to sustainable development and social inclusion.

This initiative is the first in Latin America to achieve commercial operation with the backing and primary investment of Climate Fund Managers (CFM), supported by the European Union. It establishes a financing model that promotes high impact renewable energy infrastructure. Erco Energía played a pivotal role as the developer, local partner, and contractor, while Andina Solar managed project administration and oversight. Pétalo del Norte will operate under a 15 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with an independent trader, ensuring long term operational stability.

The inauguration of Pétalo del Norte I represents a significant milestone in the expansion of solar energy in Colombia. It serves as a powerful example of international collaboration focused on decarbonization, a mission LONGi remains deeply committed to, striving to build a brighter and more sustainable future.
