WABAG Lands Major International Projects for Wastewater Treatment and Desalination.

VA TECH WABAG, a leading global water technology company, continues to expand its footprint with significant project wins across Tunisia, Nepal, and Oman.

These notable contract acquisitions, secured against strong international competition, underscore WABAG’s technical expertise and commitment to sustainable water solutions.

In Tunisia, WABAG has been awarded a substantial consortium order from the Office National De L’assainissement (ONAS), valued at 114.22 million Tunisian Dinars (approximately 34 million Euros).

This project involves the design, build, and operation (DBO) of a 36 MLD Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) at Sousse Hamdoun II. Funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Investment Bank (BEI), and the European Union (EU), this endeavor will be executed over 24 months, followed by a 12-month operation and maintenance phase.

Regarding this contract win, Mr. Habib Derouich, CEO of WABAG Tunisia, stated, “We are grateful to ONAS for their ongoing trust and confidence in WABAG. This repeat order, secured in the face of stiff global competition, further solidifies WABAG’s market-leading position in Tunisia and the broader North African region.”

Expanding its presence in Nepal, WABAG has secured an approximately USD 49 million order from Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL).

Funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this project encompasses the design, build, and operation (DBO) of three wastewater treatment plants in Sallaghari, Kodku, and Dhobighat. These plants will collectively treat 69 MLD of wastewater, helping to reduce the discharge of untreated wastewater into the local rivers and improve the regional ecosystem.

Reflecting on this significant accomplishment, WABAG commented, “We are immensely pleased to have been entrusted with this pivotal project. This repeat order is a testament to our steadfast commitment to excellence, sustainability, and the trust our customer has placed in our technical and execution expertise. This contract further solidifies WABAG’s presence in Nepal and the broader South Asian region.”

Additionally, WABAG has also secured a long-term O&M contract for the Al Duqm Desalination Plant in Oman. Valued at around Rs 850 million, this five-year contract was awarded by Nama Water Services.

WABAG had initially constructed this 8 MLD desalination plant over a decade ago and managed its operations and maintenance until 2018. The renewed contract covers the ongoing O&M of the plant, including the seawater intake and outfall systems.

The desalinated water produced by this facility is critical for domestic consumption in the Duqm and Haima areas of the Al Wusta Governorate.

Subramaniam M, Sales & Business Development Director for the GCC region, said, “This new order in Oman aligns with our growth strategy, and adds to our robust O&M order book, providing annuity income that improves our cash flow and revenue predictability. We are grateful to Nama Water Services for their ongoing trust in our capabilities and technical competence, which were instrumental in securing this repeat contract.”
