TAQA Water Solutions has recently announced the formalization of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the New Tashkent City Directorate to investigate the development of a 65-kilometer raw water transmission pipeline along with a modern water treatment facility in New Tashkent City, Uzbekistan.
This initiative represents the company’s second significant water infrastructure project in Uzbekistan and signifies a key step towards creating a sustainable urban environment. The objective is to deliver clean and dependable water to around two million inhabitants.
The MoA signing initiates a crucial phase for this vital infrastructure project. As part of the agreement, TAQA Water Solutions has been granted an exclusive timeframe to formulate a detailed proposal, which includes thorough technical and financial assessments. These evaluations will establish the project’s viability and facilitate a sustainable, bankable solution.
The agreement was signed by Eng Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions, and Maksud Abbaskhanov, Deputy Director of the New Tashkent City Directorate. With TAQA Group’s vast experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects, this agreement reinforces the company’s reputation as a leading provider of sustainable water solutions globally.
Under the terms of the agreement, TAQA Water Solutions will develop a comprehensive proposal that includes extensive technical and financial evaluations. Once completed, the project will ensure a sustainable drinking water supply sourced from the Charvak Mountain Reservoir to New Tashkent City.
The infrastructure will feature a cutting-edge water treatment plant equipped with advanced technologies to adhere to the highest international water quality standards. The 65-kilometer raw water transmission pipeline will have a daily capacity exceeding 500,000 cubic meters and generate up to 20 megawatts of hydropower, ensuring a steady and reliable supply of clean water to accommodate the city’s ongoing expansion and future demands.
Eng Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions, remarked: “Our collaboration with the New Tashkent City Directorate heralds a new chapter in water security, aligning with the UAE’s public-private partnership goals. Building on last year’s achievement in spearheading the development of Tashkent’s largest wastewater treatment facility, we are eager to begin comprehensive evaluations and assessments for this new project, which will establish new benchmarks for sustainable resource management and contribute to the enduring wellbeing and prosperity of the New Tashkent City community.
Maksud Abbaskhanov, Deputy Director of the New Tashkent City Directorate, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to sign this agreement with TAQA Water Solutions as we know that the capabilities they bring to this agreement are outstanding, based on years of experience in Abu Dhabi. Developing this project will supply the people of New Tashkent with a reliable and sustainable operation that has proven its strength as state-of-the-art in the UAE, which goes alongside the reputation of TAQA Water Solutions and its engineers. This agreement is a significant step, and I am more than confident that the cooperation we have had over the past couple of months in developing this agreement has laid a solid foundation for the next steps.”
Valued at approximately AED2 billion ($544 million), this project represents a strategic investment in the future development of New Tashkent City. By ensuring the city’s long-term water supply, it fosters economic growth and improves the overall quality of life for its residents.
Additionally, this initiative bolsters the expanding partnership between the UAE and Uzbekistan, emphasizing both countries’ mutual dedication to sustainable progress and economic development.
