SunPower-REC Partnership Introduces Industry-Leading Solar Panel

SunPower Inc. (referred to as “SunPower,” the “Company,” or Nasdaq: “SPWR”), a leading solar technology, services, and installation company, is proud to introduce its new “Monolith” solar panel, the inaugural product under the SunPower-REC Joint Development Agreement (JDA). REC Group, the globally recognized leader in solar panel manufacturing for the U.S. residential market, collaborates with SunPower to develop, engineer, and commercialize high-wattage, frameless bifacial solar panels tailored for residential and light commercial markets.

SunPower Chairman and CEO T.J. Rodgers stated, “SunPower has a rich history of innovation in solar cell and panel technology since its inception in 1985. By the time of SunPower’s Initial Public Offering in 2005, we had already developed the most technologically advanced solar panels in the industry, manufactured on fully automated production lines. Today, we further this legacy through our partnership with REC, the current U.S. residential solar panel industry leader, renowned for durability, high-quality standards, and innovation.”

Rodgers elaborated, “Our first JDA product is the ‘Monolith’ solar panel—a solid-black panel weighing just 50 pounds, adhering to the U.S. OSHA single-worker residential panel weight limit, while delivering a record 470 watts of power under standard test conditions. SunPower holds exclusive rights to the REC Alpha Pure-TX 470W panel, which is now in production. Our next milestone is upgrading it to a bifacial panel, capable of capturing light from both sides, a technology SunPower showcased on the NASA Helios solar-powered airplane in 2001, boosting the Monolith’s output to over 500 watts.”

Cary Hayes, President of REC Americas, remarked, “We are thrilled to partner with SunPower, a legacy brand in renewable energy known for its commitment to innovation and quality, and to continue advancing our cutting-edge bifacial panel technology.”

Surinder S. Bedi, Executive Vice President of Quality, Engineering, and Customer Success at SunPower, added, “We are excited to collaborate with REC, a market leader, on advanced solar systems. The new 470-watt panel and the upcoming 500-plus-watt bifacial panel are engineered to deliver superior system performance and maximize long-term energy production, even in the most challenging environmental conditions. Ultimately, this innovation not only reduces the cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of energy but also provides exceptional value to system owners, many of whom are investment companies focused on ROI.”

Rodgers concluded, “As American households face rising utility costs, SunPower and REC remain dedicated to delivering the most advanced solar panel technology and comprehensive solar system solutions to meet the escalating energy needs of our customers.”
