–Water treatment control panel
Wastewater system integrator
—Scenario
This system integrator sought a reliable water / wastewater-focused drive that was straightforward in installation, commissioning, and operation. Seamless switching between Hand/Auto Modes was essential. The drive needed to be powered by a single-phase voltage supply and have UL certification.
—Equipment / services utilized
The SINAMICS G120X emerged as the perfect fit for this integrator. They were previously using another popular brand of drives but found its usability lacking, particularly when toggling between Hand and Auto Mode. The G120X is notably more user centric. Another significant advantage was SINAMICS G120X’s ability to accept a single-phase 480V supply, with UL certification to support this feature.
—Value to the customer
For many local water and wastewater treatment plants, SINAMICS G120X stands out as a user-friendly solution
The customer expressed great satisfaction with the drive’s easy mode-switching and commissioning process
Built-in Ethernet was also perceived as a distinct edge over other market alternatives
-Integrating for balanced water
Puerto Rico Power and Water Authority (PRASA)
—Scenario
PRASA was in need of integrating new drives into their water supply system. Their aim was to balance the various pumping stations, ensuring consistent water flow and pressure across the island.
—Equipment / services utilized
Siemens introduced PRASA to SINAMICS G120X drives. Seeing its potential, PRASA opted for four custom enclosed drive panels with bypass from Siemens, packaged within the Prime Controls panel shop.
—Value to the customer
PRASA was able to quickly optimize water distribution
The drives’ PROFINET capabilities allowed real-time monitoring of water flow and pressure
A cost-effective solution, coming in under competitors’ price point, enabling PRASA to achieve their desired outcomes efficiently
–City water infrastructure
A large city municipality needed to begin upgrading aging infrastructure. Specifically, the installed water pump drives had become obsolete. There were 14 pumping stations around the area with several large drives at each. This first project was for the pumping station that had both 6-pulse and 12-pulse drives on water pumps.
The drives needed Ethernet/IP™ communication to integrate with a Rockwell PLC network. A low-cost NEMA 3R enclosed drive solution was necessary. The drives needed to be pump-focused product with features such as condensation protection, bypass mode, etc. A short lead time was also important to the customer.
—Equipment / services utilized
The SINAMICS G120X packaged by a local panel partner was the perfect fit for the customer. The pump-focused product was found to be easy to use and had built-in Ethernet/IP™ communications. It was competitively priced with a short lead time and the panels met requirements.
—Value to the customer
The panel partner was able to provide this enclosed drive in approximately 3 weeks fulfilled through their own stock of SINAMICS G120X drives
The municipality was pleased with the ease of programming and integration into the Ethernet/IP™ network
The price and functionality met their needs as well. They now have a modern, high-performance product to advance their local municipality.
Siemens also recently won the second upgrade here, which is a good sign for the remaining 13 pumping stations
