On April 30th, the IJGlobal Awards 2024 ceremony took place in Dubai, honoring exceptional achievements in the energy and infrastructure sectors. This year, the Rayis-Rabigh IWTP (Independent Water Transmission Project), spearheaded by Tedagua under its parent company Grupo Cobra and in partnership with the Saudi firm Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies, received the award for Best Project of the Year in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) due to its significant impact on water infrastructure development.
Representatives from the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), Grupo Cobra, and Tedagua, along with other key stakeholders involved in the project, were present at the award ceremony. The Rayis-Rabigh IWTP entails the construction and 35-year operation of a water transmission system linking Rayis and Rabigh in Saudi Arabia, developed for the SWPC, the public entity overseeing public-private partnerships in the water sector.
This infrastructure will connect the industrial centers of both cities, situated north of Jeddah, facilitating the distribution of desalinated water to the regions of Mecca and Medina. The system comprises a 151-kilometer carbon steel pipeline with a diameter exceeding 2 meters, a reversible pumping station with a capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day, two storage tanks of 170,000 cubic meters each, and a 13 MW solar power plant.
For Cobra, as the concession leader, and for Tedagua, as the EPC and O&M lead, this project is a strategic initiative that enhances their footprint in the country, fosters technological advancement, and supports the progression of key initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals in integrated water infrastructure.
