Installation of monopiles at the Windanker offshore wind farm in Germany completed

Iberdrola Deutschland, the German arm of Iberdrola’s international operations, has achieved a significant milestone in the development of the Windanker offshore wind farm by successfully installing all 21 monopile foundations. This accomplishment signals the commencement of the project’s next construction phase.

The monopiles were produced at a cutting edge manufacturing facility in Spain, specially designed for large monopile foundations through a strategic partnership between Navantia Seanergies and Windar Renovables. The installation of these foundations was carried out by Van Oord, utilizing the heavy lift installation vessel Svanen. The project remains on track, with Windanker expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

Windanker, along with Wikinger and Baltic Eagle, forms the Baltic Hub, a project through which Iberdrola is increasing its installed capacity in the Baltic Sea to over 1,100 MW. This initiative plays a crucial role in ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply. Upon completion, the Baltic Hub will generate enough green electricity to power more than 1.1 million households annually.

Since December 2024, the Japanese energy company Kansai has held a 49% stake in Windanker, while Iberdrola maintains a majority stake of 51% in this strategic alliance.
