In Seymour, Indiana American Water held a groundbreaking ceremony today to officially begin construction on a new, state-of-the-art water treatment facility that will cost $50 million.

The new plant, which is anticipated to be operational by the fall of 2026, will replace the city’s more than 100-year-old facility.

City officials, community leaders, Reynolds Construction representatives, Seymour Mayor Matthew Nicholson, and Indiana American Water President Barry L. Suits attended the event.

“This is a historic day for Indiana American Water and the City of Seymour,” stated Barry L. Suits, Indiana American Water President. More than steel and concrete, this new facility is a promise. a pledge that we are spending money on the infrastructure that underpins our economy, way of life, and health. Delivering safe, clean, dependable, and reasonably priced water for future generations is a commitment.

The project is an important investment in the future of the city, according to Nicholson.

We are grateful for Indiana American Water’s ongoing support of Seymour. For many years to come, our community will continue to benefit from this new facility,” he stated.

The city’s current average daily demand of 2.5 million gallons per day (MGD) will be nearly doubled by the new facility’s 4.5 MGD treatment capacity. The plant’s capacity can be increased to 6 MGD as community needs change because it was designed with future growth in mind.
