Iberdrola España, the Spanish subsidiary of the company, has implemented a photovoltaic self-consumption system at the lower house of the Spanish Parliament. This initiative features three solar installations with a total of 112 panels, which are expected to generate around 90 MWh of electricity annually sufficient to meet the energy requirements of offices and meeting rooms.
The solar panels have been thoughtfully integrated into the extension buildings of the congress, ensuring that the aesthetics of the historic site are preserved while blending modern technology with the existing architecture. Photovoltaic self-consumption systems can yield substantial savings: approximately 30% on annual bills for condominiums, 50% for businesses, and up to 70% for single-family homes. These savings are realized through three mechanisms: utilizing self-generated energy instead of purchasing it from the grid, receiving compensation for surplus energy returned to the grid, and benefiting from tax reductions.
Iberdrola is recognized as the leading provider of photovoltaic self-consumption solutions in Spain. This project is in line with the company’s commitment to accelerating electrification, promoting energy efficiency, and developing innovative products that facilitate cost savings and sustainable energy usage.
