Iberdrola España, the Spanish subsidiary of the company, has inaugurated a new photovoltaic plant in Ciudad Rodrigo, marking its second installation in Salamanca and one of the largest in the Castile and León region. With an installed capacity of 316 MW, the facility is set to produce sufficient clean energy to supply more than 155,000 households, while preventing the release of approximately 75,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Developed in collaboration with Norges Bank, the project covers 439 hectares between Valdecarros and the Torralba mountain range. It features over 460,000 photovoltaic modules and represents a substantial investment of 200 million euros. At the peak of its construction phase, the project generated 800 jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
In addition to its focus on clean energy generation, Iberdrola emphasizes its dedication to sustainability and rural development. The company has introduced initiatives aimed at conserving biodiversity by safeguarding local flora and fauna, while also supporting cultural heritage and fostering long-term growth in rural Spain.
