Iberdrola España expands its partnership with Mercadona with renewable energy purchase agreements (PPAs) for over 300 MW for the next decade

Iberdrola España, the Spanish branch of Iberdrola, and leading retailer Mercadona have entered into a new long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for over 300 MW of wind and solar energy capacity. This clean energy will support Mercadona’s operations across its logistics centers and supermarket network in Spain and Portugal.

For years, the two companies have collaborated to enhance energy services. Iberdrola is responsible for the supply, installation, and operation of up to 3,500 electric vehicle charging points at 800 Mercadona stores, playing a significant role in the development of public EV charging infrastructure.

As a global leader in renewable energy, Iberdrola has considerable experience in structuring PPAs in various markets, including Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the UK, the US, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia. The company has provided innovative PPA solutions for over a decade, encompassing both onshore and offshore wind projects as well as solar initiatives.

Iberdrola’s corporate energy clients feature prominent names such as Amazon linked to PPAs across Spain, Portugal, and the UK with the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm alongside Google, Bayer, BP, Telefónica, and Salzgitter, in addition to an expanding network of local partners.
