Filtralite® Pure is an advanced filter media designed for drinking water treatment, offering superior porosity and biofilm growth conditions. Its innovative structure ensures efficient removal of contaminants such as iron, manganese, and ammonia, while improving hydraulic performance and operational sustainability.
The Kerbellec Drinking Water Treatment Plant, operated by Eau du Morbihan in France, serves approximately 400,000 inhabitants across 196 municipalities. The plant relies on a small-scale production unit (about 100 m³/h or 450,000 m³/year) drawing raw water from the Blavet River through two granular filters, each approximately 10 m² in area.
To enhance operational performance, one filter was retrofitted: the traditional sand medium (effective size 0.95 mm) was replaced with Filtralite® Pure NC 0.8–1.6 mm at a depth of 0.7 m, while retaining a companion sand filter for comparison.
After several months of operation, the following improvements were observed:
Run times increased by 150% compared to the sand filter.
Significant water savings and reduced operational interruptions.
Hydraulic performance boosted by 3 points, translating to smoother flow and reduced head losses.
Return on investment achieved in under three years when the entire plant is equipped with Filtralite® media.
In 2020, based on the success of the pilot, the entire Kerbellec site was retrofitted with Filtralite® Pure NC 0.8–1.6, ensuring consistent and enhanced hydraulic performance across all filters
